(Short) Film Review: Ticky Tacky

TICKY TACKY (starring Oscar Isaac) from A Saboteur on Vimeo.

Writer/director, Brian Pestos' pseudo-Wes Anderson style dark comedy is reminiscent of a stage play, with its one room setting, over the course of "3 days." The film stars Hollywood star, Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis, Ex Machina, Star Wars: The Force Awakens) as Lucien, an affluent and powerful man, whose girlfriend (Erika Rankin) has cheated on him with his cousin (Tim Rock). Enraged by this discovery, with the help of his sideman (or boy, as he seems to be about 12 years old), Gabriel (Julian Shatkin), Lucien decides to kill his cousin. Flashing between looming psycho and endearing immaturity, Oscar Isaac's performance is deserving of much praise.

The relationship between Lucien and Gabriel is an interesting and hilarious look at who the "adult" and who the "child" really is. The film features all the necessary pieces of a good story: a santa suit, a donut, a juice box of Yoo-Hoo, and a gallon of gasoline. The performances are purposefully over the top, and are a wondrous demonstration of a tongue-in-cheek take on a violent revenge plot. I highly recommend you delve into Pestos' tale, and experience all of the ticky tacky he has to share.
